About Us
Our practice was founded in 2017, previously known as Simone Barker & Associates. In June 2022, Aqeela De Long bought into the heart and culture of the practice and De Long Physiotherapy was born. Located in the heart of Claremont’s medical hub on Wilderness Road, it is just a stone’s throw from Kingsbury Hospital. From its first month practicing, it has grown as word quickly spread about the culture, quality and heart behind the name. The practice originally started out with a special focus on the niche sphere of mastectomies, since then it has grown to cover all neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and post-operative rehabilitation. We cater to both in-patients at Kingsbury Hospital, and out patients from Claremont and the surrounding areas of the southern suburbs.

What to expect at each session:
Your first appointment will involve an assessment to determine the help you may require. We will use 3 main approaches.
Education and Advice
The physiotherapist’s role is to assess, treat, advise and prevent further injury. We provide general advice and ways to improve your overall wellbeing. We will investigate and discuss the cause of the problem and how we can work on ways to fix it in the short and long term. This may include programmes which focus on an adjustment to your lifestyle for example: changing your ergonomics (posture at work), exercise technique or regular exercise as a form of stress release.
Rehabilitative exercise: This is aimed at improving movement and function
Each structure of the body ligament, muscle, tendon, disc and nerve follow a pattern of healing. Dependant on the nature of the injury or if there are set post-operative requirements, your physiotherapist will tailor your rehabilitation programme to you your specific condition. We will also make informed decisions on whether or not you need further investigation.
Manual therapy
This includes specific soft tissue mobilization, spinal and joint mobilization, myofascial release and advice about how to stretch. We also offer dry needling and laser therapy.
